Games Design
Customer
What does the customer want? - A game for students to play that helps them develop their math skills.
What does the design brief say? - "Create a Maze game for the students to play that also helps them develop their mathematics skills. The main character of this game ‘Brainbox’ has to move from level to level solving increasing difficult maths based problems. Each level should show a different maths problem and the level of the maths problem should be GCSE grade C Mathematics."
Who is the target audience? - Students are the target audience
Development
What sprites do we need? - We need characters sprites, maths related sprites, loss screen sprites, win screen sprites, enemies.
What sounds do we need? - The most relevant sounds would be happy or sad sounds depending on what you get right, movement sounds
How many levels do we want? - At least 5 would be a good amount of levels.
What other elements do we want? - backgrounds and rooms are key elements we need else the game could not be made. good drawing is something we want.
Management
What do we want to do by the end of this session? - (Week 1) Create some sprites.
(Week 2) Create the rest of the game and document how I made certain things
(Week 3) Finish documenting and polish off game.
(Week 4) Finish off and hand in work.

How long do we have to create this game? - 4 Weeks
How can we break down the tasks in making a game? - create the different sprites, record sounds with a good quality microphone or download sounds from a site, draw the backgrounds if you are good at drawing or get help from a friend. It's best to get down the sprites and other resources first before you start work on your game.
Design of the Game
For certain sprites I edited them together with Fireworks, others I just used the gamemaker editor as it was easier, here are some examples of sprites I have made for my game:
This is a question sprite, I made this by creating a square in Fireworks and adding a Chrome Style to it.
I then changed the font and typed in the question
I then added the blue border with the Line Tool which was easy to use.
This is an answer sprite, it was created in a similar way to the question sprite however the lines were not added this time.

I did the same sort of thing for the backgrounds as I made a background with a chrome style and wrote some things on it in the System font.
Here is the coding for my main character, I had to put a lot of different things together for my game to work perfectly, mainly the collisions and controls take up most of it but not all of it.
Finally I shall show you a gameplay image of my finished game which includes all the things in it required and exactly what I intended.
