Games Design Week 11: Platform Game

Games Design - Platform Game

Customer

What does the customer want? - A game where you jump around and kill enemies.

What does the design brief say? - "The main character of this game ‘Max’ has to move from level to level solving fighting (and/or dodging) monsters which either chase Max or block his way. Max progresses from level to level collecting weapons to fight the monster and/or avoiding the monsters.
Max gets score from collecting diamonds and from killing monsters. He has to collect certain items to unlock doors to progress to the next level. This is a platform game so I would expect Max to be able to jump over obstacles / monsters."

Who is the target audience? - The target audience are school students.

Development

What sprites do we need? - We need characters sprites, maths related sprites, loss screen sprites, win screen sprites, enemies.

What sounds do we need? - The most relevant sounds would be happy or sad sounds depending on what you get right, movement sounds

How many levels do we want? - At least 5 would be a good amount of levels.

What other elements do we want? - backgrounds and rooms are key elements we need else the game could not be made. good drawing is something we want.

Management

What do we want to do by the end of this session? - (Week 1) Create some sprites.
(Week 2) Create the rest of the game and document how I made certain things
(Week 3) Finish documenting and polish off game.
(Week 4) Finish off and hand in work.

How long do we have to create this game? - 4 Weeks

How can we break down the tasks in making a game? - create the different sprites, record sounds with a good quality microphone or download sounds from a site, draw the backgrounds if you are good at drawing or get help from a friend. It's best to get down the sprites and other resources first before you start work on your game.
