Unit 20 Assignment 1: List of Different Game Platforms

Xbox 360:
The Specifications are:

  • 500 MHz ATI Xenos graphics card
  • The Size of it is 31.4 x 30.4 x 18.6 cm, the portability is not too bad as it only weighs 4.3kg so you can take it on holiday if you want.
  • It has a 3.2 GHz PowerPC Tri-CoreXenon
  • The memory is 512 MB of GDDR3 RAM clocked at 700MHz
  • Most Xbox 360s have at least 60GB hard drive space, going all the way up to 500GB however the newer Xbox 360 systems have only 4GB as you need to buy separate hard drive for it
  • There are roughly 1125 games available for the Xbox 360, it also has backwards compatibility with the original Xbox for 478 games.
  • The 360 is the second in the Xbox series, the first being Xbox, the second being 360 and the third being Xbox One

Xbox (2001)  - This was the first xbox console and was very popular when it came out. It ended up having 999 games released for the platform and was not as successful as the Playstation 2 which came out a year earlier and sold over 120 million more than the xbox.

Xbox One (2013) - This is the most recent version of the Xbox which came out in November 2013. It has been quite popular since release and has almost 300 games released for it already. The PS4 which came out around the same time has been a bit more successful and sold more units

Comparing the Xbox, Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The 360 is probably the best as it has more games and more success and more players therefore it is probably the best one as far as I know.

Playstation 4
The specifications are:
  • Semi-custom AMD GCN Radeon graphics card
  •  30.5 x 27.5 x 5.3 cm is the dimensions for the PS4 and the weight is only 2.8KG
  • The PS4 has a Semi-custom 8-core AMD x86-64 Jaguar CPU which is very powerful and produce a whopping 1,843 GFLOPS
  • The PS4 has a massive 8GB of memory and another 256MB of RAM for background tasks
  • The Playstation 4 can store 500GB of games and software
  • There are approximately 317 games available on the PS4 so far.
  • This is the fourth console in it's series, the first one being Playstation, followed by Playstation 2 (which was the most popular one) and then Playstation 3
Playstation (1995) - This was the first Playstation of it's kind and was very very popular even until this day. There have been thousands of games released for it, no-one is sure about the correct amount. It sold over 100 million copies worldwide.

Playstation 2 (2000) - This was the most popular Playstation and still is. There have been 3870 games made for it and it has sold over 155 million consoles.

Playstation 3 (2006) - This console has 795 games in it's library and has sold over 80 million copies.

Comparing the 4 consoles, the PS2 is the most popular but the PS4 has the best hardware, PS3 has more exclusive games and PS1 has good classics.

Nintendo Wii
The Specifications are:
  • It has an ATI 'Hollywood' graphics card
  • The dimensions are 38.4 x 25.2 x 11.2 cm and weight of the console is 3.1KG
  • It has a IBM PowerPC "Broadway" processor
  • It has 25MB RAM
  • It has 512MB internal storage
  • The Wii has 1222 games released for it.
  • The Wii is the first in the series and has sold over 100 million copies, the only other console after the Wii is the Wii U which is not as popular.
Wii U (2012) - The Wii U currently has 409 games released on it's platform and has sold around 10 million copies worldwide.

Comparing the two consoles, the Wii has a lot more games and a lot more successful but the Wii U has newer technology and a game pad which improves interactivity with the games and is more fun for the family.

Android
The Samsung Galaxy S6 Specifications are:
  • It has a Mali-T760 graphics card
  • The dimensions are 143.4 x 70.5 x 6.8 mm and the weight is 138 grams
  • It has a Quad-core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A53 & Quad-core 2.1 GHz Cortex-A57 CPU
  • It has 3GB of RAM
  • It can have up to 128GB internal storage
  • There are thousands of games in the Google Play App store
  • The Galaxy S6 has had 5 previous versions which have gotten much better as new ones are released

The previous Galaxy versions are all newer better versions of eachother, as each new phone has been released it is more powerful and has a newer version of the android operating system.

The sales figures for the last version of the phone, Samsung Galaxy S5, are in the millions, it was reported in May last year that it sold 11 million phones, by now it is likely much more.
The Galaxy S6 will release on April 10th of 2015.

PS Vita
The Specifications are:
  • The PS Vita includes a SGX543MP4+ GPU
  • The dimensions are 182.0 x 18.6 x 83.5mm and the weight is 260 grams so it is easy to transport
  • Its CPU is a ARM® Cortex™- A9 core (4 core)
  • It has 512 MB RAM and 128 MB VRAM
  • It can store from 4GB up to 64GB via adding a memory card to the console
  • So far, there are 961 games available for the Playstation Vita and there will continue to be more over the years
  • The PS Vita is the latest in the series of only two portable consoles released by Sony and aim to compete with the Nintendo DS
Playstation Portable (2005) - This was the predecessor to the PS Vita and was much more successful in it's run with over 80 million sales however the PS Vita has only been out since 2012 so it could catch up.

The PSP definitely has more games for it however the PS Vita has much better graphics and a better interface along with more digital games and internet connection such as to watch youtube or facebook as well as play online.

PC
The Specifications are:
  • Nvidia GTX 200/400/500/600/700/900
  • Size can vary between different cases and they are most likely not a good thing to carry around
  • Usually i3/i5/i7 processor or other AMD processor
  • Memory usually is from 1-32gb
  • Storage can go from 1gb-5tb
  • There are thousands and thousands of games available for pc, too many to count
  • PCs are in a series that is constantly changing and upgrading with different companies and hardware
Every PC has something different about it and every PC is put together how the owner of it wants it to be so it's difficult to compare PCs unless they use all the same hardware
