Human Computer Interface Task 1

Ways A Player Can Engage With Games
There are many ways a player can engage with videogames, such as with different types of controllers on an Xbox or Playstation, on a built in controller which you can get on a NintendoDS or a PSVita and you can also play games with a keyboard and mouse. Another way you can play games are on a phone with touch screen or you can buy a controller that you can plug your phone into and play sort of like any other portable gaming device. I prefer to use a keyboard and mouse on most games apart from if I am playing a game which is controller recommended such as Resident Evil or DiRT. There are new types of controllers in development such as Virtual Reality Headsets, there are a few in the making including the Oculus Rift and the HTC RE Vive.

The same games are not always on every platform, most games are only on Playstation or Xbox however some games are ported to PC. A lot of mobile games are ported to pc, some NintendoDS games are also ported to PC however it is much more rare, there are a lot more console exclusives such as Uncharted and Killzone for Playstation. Not many games are limited by their controls or resolutions because they can easily fix that when they port to pc or other console.

The difference it is for gamers whether they are using a keyboard or a controller are that if you are using a controller it is difficult to aim properly so that is why aim assist exists, it is also difficult to look around and see where you are going however if you use a keyboard and mouse then it is much easier to play games in the first person perspective, even me when I played Mirrors Edge on Xbox I had some difficulties however when I played it on PC it was much easier however it probably also depends on how long you've used a keyboard or a controller as you may be more used to one or the other. If you are using a VR headset then it is completely different as it has a more realistic feel and much more immersive.
