P3 - Effects of shooters survey results

Effects of Shooters Survey

This was a survey I conducted to find out the effects shooter games have on people and if they have played any themselves, along with any impacts videogames have had on them.

First of all, I asked people what their gender was, the response made a lot of sense as most people were male as most gamers are male and there is also only 1 female in the class so it adds up correctly.
This shows that more males play videogames. Statistically more males do play videogames, as long as you don't count mobile games. This was also a basic question which needed to be asked to completely confirm who is playing videogames.

Another easy question was what their age was. Most people were aged 16-18 however there were some older people. This shows that mostly younger people play videogames and older people playing them isn't a very common occurrence, also that mostly 16-18 year olds were the ones answering the survey.

A question that is asked a lot in gaming is how much videogames are played, I asked this question on the survey and most people say they play atleast 20 hours of videogames per week. This shows that people are very dedicated to their hobby of gaming and use most of their free time on it.

Another common question I asked was if people played shooters, most people seem to play them which is expected as shooters are some of the most popular videogames of all time. This shows that a majority of 16-18 year old males play shooters which isn't a surprise.

Here I asked at what age did they first play a violent shooter videogame, most people were saying they played an 18+ game that their parents/siblings had when they were only around 9 years old. This shows that anyone can get a hold of violent videogames very easily even when they are under age, and most of the time their parents let them, this causes them to be desensitized to violence which can be both good and bad as it could stop them from being violent themselves or on the flip side it could make them violent if they stop having access to violent games.

I asked some people if they are aggressive at all when playing videogames and what specifically angers them, the most common response was bugs or players in online games which are the main issues of anger in videogames. This shows that most people are angered by a broken part of the game or the other players within the game and not usually themselves.

A rather surprising response was that most people only preferred violent videogames sometimes and not very often. This shows that people only like violent shooters every now and then and prefer to play other types of games as well. There are many different games and genres so I'm not surprised that they only like to play shooters some of the time and not all of the time.

One of the more serious questions I asked was if any violent games have mentally affected anyone. Most people responded saying that it hasn't affected them at all, even saying it has desensitized them to violence in all media and real world, another person said that mentally it hasn't affected them but they do get excited while playing certain games which is a given as most people when playing videogames are in a good mood unless they are playing online and losing a lot.

For the last question I asked people if they have ever been shocked at something they saw in a videogame and most people have said nothing has shocked them in a game or if it did shock them it wasn't enough to stop them from playing. This shows that people of today are not affected by anything they see in videogames, much different from back in the 1900s when people would pass out or even vomit from scenes in movies, but today those films wouldn't really affect anyone at all. This is the same for videogames, thing that were considered shocking 20 years ago are completely fine now, and even new games like Mortal Kombat X isn't even that bad because of how desensitized people are to it.
