Platform Game
Sample rate: is 24bit 192000Hz (studio quality)
It is Stereo sound that I recorded therefore it shall work best with 2.1 speaker output
Stored as wav file type as the quality is better
Name of song is called 'run and jump' and the sounds are things like 'walk' 'shoot' 'hit' which all do what they're titled
Files will be named such as pltfrm.wav for example
All sounds and music will be created in Reaper
The sounds will be saved as uncompressed wav files as the sounds are short enough that the file size won't be a problem
Genre: electric/fast paced/rock
All recorded sounds are original and some have been edited, mainly slowed down or sped up to sound different and unique.
RAM: This is not an issue although the file will be saved as a WAV so it will use up more hard drive space than usual however I should have enough.
How The song was Created
I used the same methods as I have done with other songs, putting in some fade out and different sounds together to create a beat and then adding a background song to put it all together. The background song was put in first to make sure that everything else would fit well. I used loop on the main beat I created so they would flow well across the entire song.
I then rendered it out in a .WAV and also a .MP3 version was rendered so I could have a bigger version with high quality and a smaller version with lower quality however that would be best for putting into a game.
Creating Sounds
I will use the sounds I recorded using a dictaphone to put into my platform game which I created a few months back. These are simple wav files which are in decent quality and with the right amount of editing should work well in my game. The sounds are short as well so they will be quick to save.
How I want my sounds to change the atmosphere
I want it to make you feel like you are on an adventure and you need to make sure to survive. This will keep the player engaged in playing as interesting sounds and music improves the gameplay and experience you get. The music increases the pace of the game as the game is very random and spontaneous, the character is a rum truffle although the footstep sounds are just shoes on concrete, this was to show that anything can happen in a videogame world, however many of the enemies are chosen based on their locations such as the desert or forest although they do not make noise as it would be difficult to code in when they make sound and what type of sounds they make. I have used sounds that work well in the type of game I have created like the pickup sounds and shooting sounds.
How my sounds fit
I believe that my sounds do fit well in my game as they aren't too serious or professional sounding but they fit just right in the type of game I have made, some inspirations have been from Mario and Sonic games which were also platforming games that have used similar sounds. I also believe that I have done my best to make the sounds that will fit well in the right places, some of the sounds I recorded beforehand were not used as they didn't have the right sounds for what I was trying to go for. I stuck to the plan I originally went with to create the type of sounds you might hear in a platforming game such as the sounds of picking up coins or jumping which you hear a lot of in most platforming games. The music I added also is intended for a platforming game as it is fast paced and keeps you engaged in the game for longer than you would if the game had no sound.

I then cut the sounds apart in Reaper so I could use certain parts of them as sounds for my game. Not much went into this apart from splitting them up at the right points. I made sure to use the right kinds of sounds for different things that will work well and blend in with the rest of the game. One of the main things I edited was the pitch as changing that will do all sorts with different sounds so it works well. I did not edit the volume of any of my sounds as they weren't to loud or too quiet.
Once I edited them I put them into my game and tested them out, they work well. I did have to change some of the code in the game so that they played and stopped at the right times but it wasn't difficult. I believe the sounds I have used are appropriate for my game.
Once the sounds are in the game it shall run and play the sounds at the right times, including the songs which I have rigged so once you get to level 3 it will change to a different song. This will help as listening to different songs is better than just one repetitive song.
